Everyone well-know that reading is crucial for improving English skills. No matter which format you read either a paper cover or an e-book.

However, reading on kindle there are some advantages that I’m going to share with you in today’s article.

For those who don’t know what Kindle is, it’s an e-reader sold by Amazon. There are two versions, the physical Kindle and the kindle app one for smartphones, desktop, and tablets.

My first contact with kindle was in the app version, in 2016, when I bought my tablet. It came with R$50 gift card to buy e-books, at that time I haven’t heard about kindle or any other e-reader. So, I made my first purchase it was about how to learn English. It was the top-one subject in my library for months.

As my reading skill was improving, I bought other kinds of books. Books that I found interesting. If the title was in my native language, I looked for the title in English then I bought them.

Of course, in the beginning, it was a pain in the neck. I used to look up meanings in the dictionary quite often. Here’s the ace in the hole. Kindle will help you save a lot of time and spark your English.

Among many benefits that you’re going to read more later in this post, the kindle has a built-in dictionary. All you need to do is pressing over the unknown word and voilá. On top of that, if you turn on the wifi connection you can translate not just a word, but whole passages.

As I’m an Anki lover, I’m used to sending by e-mail sentences with the unknown words and expressions to add flashcards on my Anki. It’s an annoying work, but after a while, it pays off, as long as you can understand your reading effortless.

I was amazed by the kindle application on my tablet, then I was looking forward to getting the physical version. So, as a good bargain hunter, I started hunting for promotion in many websites. Then finally I got my lovely kindle.

Now, let’s know the benefits:

  1. To have all your library in one place. You can have an endless variety of books at your fingertips.
  2. To highlight parts of the text to check later on
  3. To make notes of highlighted parts.
  4. To share with friends passages on social media
  5. To find easily parts of the book through the search box
  6. To know the percentage of your reading
  7. To move back and forward smoothly through the table of content
  8. The stored space to save a ton of books
  9. The economic battery. Especially if it’s on plane mode
  10. To bookmark pages
  11. To create flashcards
  12. To synchronize all devices

I’d love to hear from you. Let me know in the comments below what do you think about kindle? Do you have one? What do you like the most about it?

  1. Hi Shirley, how are you? 😜
I read some eBooks by Kindle app or pc me too and I agree with you about your considerations.
I bought Kobo recently, an e-reader like Kindle.
At the end I decided to buy Kobo instead Kindle because I discover it can read more formats then the second.
However it’s just a little different, but the concept is that both occupied a small space and for this reason you can carry them everywhere and during the summer, if you are sunbathing, there isn’t problem because the screen is good also under the sun .
    See you soon
    A huge hug!

    • Hey Angela, what’s up?
I’m so glad to hear from you.
I haven’t heard about Kobo before. Thanks for introducing it to me! =)
      Cheers.

Hey Shirley, I just read this post and I am agree with you, Kindle is really good to read many books in your not native language, specially English. I love the dictionary that Kindle has, because it saves you a lot of time.

I guess that one of the pro is that you can but an audible book and improve your listening too.
